FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Ten different players contributed at least one point as Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse scored 11 of the first 13 goals in Saturday's clash with Wagner on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium en route to a 14-9 victory.
Bryce Ford led the scoring effort with his second consecutive five-goal game.
With the win, the Stags improve to 1-3. Wagner slips to 0-3.
"We did a lot of good things today. Our offense is at its best when we're sharing the ball and getting a lot of guys involved," said Head Coach
Andrew Baxter. "And some penalties hurt us, but our six-on-six defense was also very strong. The next step is to put it all together for a full 60 minutes. We're looking forward to a full week to prepare for Providence next Saturday."
Ford added an assist to his five goals for a team-leading six points.
Jake Coleman had a team-best three assists and scored two of his own for five points.
Jake Gilbert added two points and two assists, and the midfield duo of
Will Consoli and
Jason LaMay Jr. posted identical scoring lines with one goal and two assists apiece.
Rounding out the scoring were
Reilly Sullivan,
Brady Strough and
Rory Thompson with one goal apiece.
Luke Okupski and
Keegan Lynch each chipped in an assist.
The defensive effort was equally as balanced as 11 Stags caused at least one of Wagner's 21 turnovers. On close defense,
Braden Lynch posted four caused turnovers with three ground balls, and
Eli Adams had three causes and four grounders.
Danny Manning posted a pair of caused turnovers. Starting LSM
Julian Radossich was all over the field with a caused turnover and five ground balls.
Dylan Smith turned in his best performance at the faceoff X this season, winning 15 of 23 draws with seven ground balls. Thompson also had a faceoff win with the long pole.
Will Snyder went the distance in the Fairfield cage, posting six saves and a ground ball on his way to the win.
James Rea paced the Wagner scoring with five goals – accounting for four of the Seahawks' five man-up tallies. Rudy Zarate made 12 stops protecting the Wagner net.
Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse returns to action on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium next Saturday, March 2 against Providence at 1 p.m. The Friars defeated in-state foe Brown in overtime this afternoon to move to 2-2.
