Crosstown Clash on Deck for the Stags, Wednesday at Sacred Heart

The Stags and Pioneers are both eying their first win of the young season

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After making one of their longest road trips of the regular season this past weekend, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse takes one of the shortest jaunts in all of Division I lacrosse this Wednesday with a visit to Sacred Heart. Opening faceoff from the other side of Fairfield is slated for 7 p.m.

The Fairfield University Stags (0-2, 0-0 CAA)
  • Fairfield is coming off on a 19-8 loss to #17/19 North Carolina this past Saturday at Georgetown Prep
  • Will Consoli scored twice against the Tar Heels to boost his team-leading totals to five goals and six points on the season
  • Jake Gilbert has scored four goals this February, including a hat trick against Lehigh on Feb. 10
  • Braden Lynch leads the close defense with three ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Julian Radossich has five ground balls and five caused turnovers from the LSM spot
  • Fairfield's man-down defense has allowed just one goal on eight chances – one of four teams in the nation to have ceded one or fewer goals on at least eight man-down situations

The Sacred Heart University Pioneers (0-3, 0-0 MAAC)
  • Sacred Heart is 0-3 on the year with the three losses coming by a total of just five goals
  • Morgan O'Reilly has racked up 13 goals and 15 total points, ranking fifth in the nation with 4.33 goals per outing
  • The Pioneers have stayed on the attack courtesy of Luke Romanek's .562 win percentage at the X
  • Sacred Heart temporarily joined the MAAC in men's lacrosse in 2023 following the dissolution of NEC Men's Lacrosse due to a dip in membership, and will remain in the conference when its full MAAC membership begins next academic year

Series History
  • Fairfield has won the last four meetings in the series, including a 17-5 win at Rafferty Stadium last season, to build a 5-2 all-time lead over the Pioneers
  • The Pioneers have held a fourth-quarter lead in the last two meetings played at SHU (2019 and 2022), with the Stags rallying to win both encounters
  • Fairfield is on a six-game winning streak against Connecticut opponents, and has defeated at least one in-state foe in every season since 2018

Up Next
  • The Stags return home to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to host Wagner on Saturday, Feb. 24 at noon
  • Admission is free for all fans
