Stags Look For 750th Division I Win Against Staten Island

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off another win against a Power 4 team, and a victory that set a couple of milestones, the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to secure another milestone when they host the Staten Island Dolphins at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Tuesday at 7pm. With a victory, the Stags will notch the 750th Division I win in their history.

Fairfield had plenty of reasons to be thankful in their last win on the road against ACC Wake Forest. Not only did the Stags clinch another win over a Power 4 team, but they also reached a couple of milestones with graduate guard Janelle Brown tallying her 1,000th career point and Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis picking up her 50th career win.

Brown became the 34th Stag all-time to reach the 1,000-point mark, hitting the number in her 111th career game. Brown netted 13 points in the win over the Demon Deacons, the 42nd time in her career she has reached double figures.

Coach Carly reached 50 career wins in just her 69th career game while also picking up her first career win over a member of the ACC. During her three-year tenure, the Stags have now posted victories over 11 different conferences including the: SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big East, Atlantic-10, Ivy, A-Sun, Big South, and NEC. Her .725 winning percentage ranks 38th among current Division I coaches.

The Stags recorded a season-high .540 field goal percentage over Wake Forest while connecting on 27 of their 50 attempts. Emina Selimovic led the accurate charge with a perfect 5-for-5 showing including going 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point line. Over her last three games, Selimovic is shooting 55 percent from deep (6-for-11).

As a team, the Stags lead the MAAC in field goal percentage (.446) while also ranking second in the league averaging 69.2 points per game.

Fairfield hit eight more 3-pointers in their road win, putting their season total to 60. Fairfield leads the conference and places 12th nationally.

Staten Island enters the game with a 4-3 record after their setback against Dominican. The Dolphins, a Division II team out of the ECC, is led by Jenalyse Alarcon who leads the team in: points (16.8), rebounds (7.8), steals (3.5), blocks (1.0), and field goal percentage (.472). Staten Island is also led by assistant coach, and former Stag, Kelsey Carey who netted 1,000 points in her All-MAAC career.

Fairfield will continue their two-game home stand with a visit from Villanova on Sunday at 2pm.
