NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Fairfield University Volleyball maintained its lead in the MAAC with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon at Merrimack. The Stags were led by 14 kills on .400 hitting from Svenja Rodenbüsch.
With the victory, the Stags improved to 13-0 in the MAAC as a part of a 15-10 overall record. Coupled with Quinnipiac's loss today at Sacred Heart, Fairfield owns a three-match lead over the Bobcats and 10-3 Rider. Merrimack dropped to 6-18 on the year with a 5-8 MAAC tally.
Rodenbüsch's 14 kills were a match high as well as a season high for the senior.
Allie Elliott chipped in eight kills from the left side and middle blocker
Maya Walker posted five kills on eight errorless swings. Rounding out the attack,
Mamie Krubally had five kills,
Harlan Wyche put down four,
Mikayla Haut had three and
As a unit, Fairfield hit .255 for the match, piloted by
Blakely Montgomery and
Abby Jandro with 17 and 13 assists, respectively. Jandro also led the back row with 14 digs to complete a double-double.
Rounding out the scoring, Elliott served up two of Fairfield's five aces. Montgomery,
Kyla Berg and
Natalie Carlin each landed one winner.
Noelle Carey donned the libero jersey and racked up 11 digs. Rodenbüsch added seven to the defensive effort and Elliott had six.
The Stags controlled the action at the net with 10 blocks. Walker and Wyche contributed to five stuffs apiece – including two solos each – with Rodenbüsch and Krubally each having a hand in two. All told, Fairfield's defense limited Merrimack to a .074 hitting percentage. The Stags have not allowed a MAAC opponent to hit .200 or better in 13 matches this season.
The Warriors were led by nine kills on 13 swings from Morgan Thurlow and seven finishers by Marissa Kobelski.
