Regular Season Concludes This Weekend in New Jersey

Stags visit Rider on Saturday, Saint Peter’s on Sunday looking to wrap up the outright regular season title

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball finishes out the 2024 regular season slate this weekend with a trek to the MAAC's New Jersey contingent. The Stags meet Rider on Saturday and Saint Peter's on Sunday looking to wrap up the outright MAAC Regular Season Championship and top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Fairfield University Stags (17-11, 15-1 MAAC)
  • Fairfield clinched a share of its sixth consecutive and 23rd overall MAAC Regular Season Championship with wins over visiting Canisius and Niagara last weekend at Mahoney Arena.
  • The Stags need one win or one loss apiece from both Quinnipiac and Rider to clinch the outright regular season title and top seed in the MAAC Championship.
  • The top two seeds in the MAAC Championship earn a double bye to the Nov. 23 semifinal round, while the third and fourth seeds will have a single bye into the quarterfinals on Nov. 22.
  • With last weekend's victories, the Stags finished up a 9-0 MAAC home record – the 20th time that the Stags went unbeaten at home during the conference regular season slate.

Rider University Broncs (14-15, 13-3 MAAC)
  • The Broncs have won seven straight matches, most recently knocking off Manhattan and Iona on the road, to keep pace at 13-3 in the MAAC.
  • Quinnipiac (13-3) owns the tiebreaker over Rider, meaning the Broncs would need to gain a match over the Bobcats in the standings to jump into second place.
  • In the Oct. 20 meeting between the Stags and Broncs at Mahoney Arena, Fairfield took a 3-1 decision behind 14 kills and nine digs from Allie Elliott and double-doubles for Mikayla Haut (13 kills, 11 digs) and Blakely Montgomery (35 assists, 16 digs).
  • Rider was led by Brynn Johnson with 16 kills. Paige Giehtbrock posted 12 kills and 10 digs for the Broncs.

Saint Peter's University Peacocks (6-17, 4-12 MAAC)
  • Sunday's match will be the season finale for Saint Peter's, which hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday before welcoming the Stags.
  • The Peacocks were mathematically eliminated from MAAC postseason contention last weekend despite a 3-1 win at Manhattan.
  • In the first meeting between Fairfield and Saint Peter's on Oct. 19, the Stags rolled to a straight set win behind 13 kills on .611 hitting for Mamie Krubally and nine kills at a .412 clip by Svenja Rodenbüsch.
  • Penelope Rivera had 11 kills for the Peacocks in the that match at Mahoney Arena.
