Stags Play for MAAC Regular Season Championship on Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will have a chance to play for the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Regular Season Championship when they welcome in-state rivals Quinnipiac to Lessing Field to kick off a Fairfield Soccer doubleheader. The Stags currently sit second in the conference standings with their 9-1-1 MAAC record. The Stags will be trying for their ninth MAAC regular season title and their second under Head Coach David Barrett.
 
Fairfield went 2-0 over the last week, which included a vital 3-2 home win over third-place Canisius to clinch a top-two spot in the MAAC. Maddy Theriault had a role in all three scores with two goals and an assist inside the first 12 minutes of the match.
 
For her success, Theriault was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career. The junior leads the MAAC with 11 goals and 25 points. She is also in the top-five in Fairfield history with 29 goals scored.
 
As a team, the Stags have one of the best offenses in the conference, leading the MAAC in: goals (44), assists (35), points (123), shots per game (21.6), and shots on goal per game (9.2). Fairfield has had one of the most up-tempo offenses in the entire country, placing second in Division I in shots per game.
 
The Stags also hold the fifth-highest winning percentage in the country with their 14-2-1 mark, holding a .853 winning percentage.
 
Quinnipiac enters play leading the MAAC with a 10-1 record while holding a 12-3-1 overall mark. Courtney Chochol is the team leader with six goals and 18 points while goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso holds a 0.56 goals against average with 10 shutouts.
 
Fairfield will next begin MAAC Championship play with a quarterfinal round at Lessing Field on Sunday at 1pm.
