Siena, Marist Visit Mahoney Arena for MAAC Weekend Homestand

Fairfield looks to continue MAAC unbeaten streak

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball wraps up a five-match homestand this weekend when Siena and Marist visit Leo D. Mahoney Arena. First serves on both Saturday against the Saints and Sunday against the Red Foxes are slated for 1 p.m.
 
Fairfield University Stags (11-10, 9-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to visiting Bryant.
  • The Stags remain unbeaten in MAAC play at 9-0 and have won 16 straight against MAAC foes – the eighth-longest winning streak against in-conference opponents in the nation.
  • With one more MAAC victory, the Stags will clinch their 29th consecutive winning season of conference play dating back to 1996.
  • Fairfield has held all nine of its MAAC opponents below a .200 hitting percentage.
  • Due to the unbalanced MAAC schedule this season, Fairfield will not visit Siena or Marist this fall.
 
Siena College Saints (4-17. 3-6 MAAC)
  • Siena has lost four straight matches to fall to 4-17 overall and 3-6 in the MAAC, most recently dropping both ends of a home weekend against Merrimack and Quinnipiac.
  • The Saints own league triumphs over Marist, Manhattan and Saint Peter's as well as a non-conference triumph over Stonehill.
  • The Stags and Saints did not share any non-conference opponents.
  • Siena ranks fourth in the MAAC with a .175 hitting percentage and is sixth defensively with foes hitting .229 against them.
  • Sara Wagner is sixth in the conference with a team-high 3.13 kills per frame.
 
All-Time Series
  • Fairfield has won 22 consecutive meetings with the Saints to build a 52-17 lead in the all-time series.
  • Siena's last win over the Stags was a 3-1 victory at Alumni Hall on Oct. 4, 2014.
  • The teams have met 14 times in the MAAC Championship, with the Stags holding a 9-5 edge in those postseason encounters.
 
Marist College Red Foxes (1-18, 1-8 MAAC)
  • Marist has dropped four straight MAAC contests since topping Manhattan on Oct. 6 for their first and only win thus far in 2024.
  • The Stags and Red Foxes did not play any common non-conference opponents.
  • Marist's .128 hitting percentage and .285 hitting percentage allowed both slot 11th of 12 teams in the MAAC.
  • After losing two All-MAAC First Team hitters as graduate transfers, including Player of the Year Sasha van der Merwe, the Red Foxes are led by 2.99 kills per set from Taylor Miller.
 
All-Time Series
  • After splitting the home-and-home series in each of the last two seasons, Fairfield owns a 49-10 lead over Marist in the all-time series.
 
In the MAAC Standings
  • Fairfield enters the weekend at 9-0, owning a two-game lead over 7-2 Quinnipiac with Canisius, Niagara and Rider all at 6-3. The Stags won the first meeting over all four those aforementioned foes.
  • The top eight teams in the 12-team MAAC will qualify for the conference tournament, with the top two seeds advancing directly to the semifinals.
  • Fairfield can clinch a berth in the postseason as early as this Sunday with the combination of two wins, two Siena losses and one Saint Peter's loss.

  • After wrapping up their five-game homestand this weekend, the Stags head across town for an Oct. 30 visit to Sacred Heart.
  • Fairfield returns to Mahoney Arena on Nov. 9-10 to close out the 2024 home slate against Canisius and Niagara.
