Barrett Picks Up 300th Career Win with 3-0 Victory at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer Head Coach David Barrett secured his 300th career victory as the Stags netted three first half goals to close out a dominating 3-0 win over Marist. Maddy Theriault, Alex Darcy, and Caroline Kelly all scored in the first 45 minutes and the Stags allowed just two Marist shots in the road win. Fairfield also clinched a top-four spot in the MAAC, guaranteeing a home match in the MAAC Quarterfinals.

"I think this is an accomplishment that's reflective of the players and coaches that I've been fortunate to be around for over 24 years," Coach Barrett said. "I've been lucky to have some great players and coaches work with me and it's indictive of the support that we've had over a long stretch of time. It's something I've proud of and we've worked hard throughout our career to be a legitimate program either at Fairfield or at Illinois Wesleyan."

"We've got a great group of girls and I'm certainly lucky to have them as part of this. I'm thrilled they were happy and it means a lot to know that they are invested as well."

All of Fairfield's (13-2-1, 8-1-1 MAAC) goals came inside the first 37 minutes of the game. Theriault got the Stags on the board in the 20th minute with her ninth goal of the season as she sent in a side shot past the keeper. The goal was set up by a beautiful pass through the defense by Reagan Klarmann who notched her sixth assist of the season.

Alex Darcy was next up for the Fairfield scorers as she finished a chance in front of the net, fighting for the ball through the Marist defense. The goal was the third of the season for her while Dana Nadda registered her career-high fifth assist of the year.

Just seven minutes later, Caroline Kelly capped the Fairfield scoring as she chased down a header from Ella Pisani and made a left-footed finish past the keeper to put the score at 3-0.

In total, the Stags out-shot Marist 18-2 while having the edge on corner kicks 13-1. It also marks the first road win against Marist since the 2014 season for the Stags.

Barrett becomes the 37th active Division I head coach to reach the 300-win milestone, with 66 of those coming with the Stags. Over his 24-year career he has averaged 12.5 wins per season, including picking up the team's 13th this year.

Fairfield will close out the regular season portion of their 2024 slate, hosting their final two matches against the top-two teams in the conference. Fairfield begins their home stand with a Senior Day contest against Canisius on Saturday at noon.
