FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will continue their run of dual meets this weekend when they host Providence College at the RecPlex pool. The meet is the second of four straight dual meets and the first of two consecutive home dates. The diving competition is slated for an 11:30 am start with the swimming portion scheduled to start at approximately 1 pm.
The Stags are coming off a meeting with Bryant University last weekend in Rhode Island that saw several outstanding performances both in the pool and on the diving board. As a team, the Stags won 12 individual events and two relay events.
Erini Pappas garnered three individual victories beginning with the 100 back (58.44). She followed up with victories in the 200 back (2:07.05) and the 200 IM (2:09.87).
On the men's side, Ed Hunt was a multiple winner with performances in the 200 IM (1:56.49) and the 200 fly (1:54.70). Andrew Cataldo was the team's top performer on the board, taking a pair of second place finishes in the 1-meter dive (240.60 points) and in the 3-meter dive (225.75 points) through his six dive rotations. For his efforts, Cataldo earned his second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) diver of the week award.
Providence hosted its Friar Invitational last weekend but will begin dual meet action this weekend. The Friars start with a trip to Brown University on Friday before coming further south for its date with Fairfield University on Saturday. Will Layden returns for the Friars after winning Big East individual titles over in 50 and 100 free both in 2023 and 2024.
Following this weekend's competition, Fairfield will host another dual meet when Monmouth University comes to campus on Saturday, October 26 beginning at 12 pm. The Stags will travel to Marist College for a tri-meet on Saturday, November 2, taking on the Red Foxes as well St. Bonaventure beginning at 1 pm.
