NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball served up 12 aces and clamped down defensively to knock off host Niagara, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Western New York.
Allie Elliott contributed three of the Stags' dozen aces and posted a double-double with 10 kills and a career-best 28 digs.
With the win, Fairfield moves to 6-0 in the MAAC as a part of an 8-9 overall record. Niagara slips to 4-2 in conference and 8-9 on the year.
Abby Jandro joined Elliott with three service aces.
Noelle Carey and
Natalie Carlin each served up two, with
Mikayla Haut and
Blakely Montgomery dropping in one apiece. The season-high 12 aces was the most for Fairfield since last season's win over Bryant and the most against a MAAC foe since landing 13 winners in four sets at Manhattan in 2021.
Niagara entered the day as the MAAC's top defensive team, but the Stags edged them out on that side of the net today. Fairfield limited the Purple Eagles to a .118 hitting percentage and outblocked the hosts, 11-9.
In addition to a career high, Elliott's 28 digs marked the most in a match by any MAAC non-libero this season. As a team, Fairfield's 103 digs are the most for the Stags since posting 107 in a five-set win over Niagara in the 2018 campaign. The Stags last reached that mark in a four-set match in the 2014 MAAC Championship against Marist.
Kyla Berg added 19 digs as a total of five Stags reached double digits in the back row. Haut picked up 15 digs and the duo of Carey and Montgomery had 11 apiece.
At the net,
Maya Walker had a hand in a team-best six of Fairfield's 11 total blocks.
Emma Beretich got a piece of five and
Janna Schlageter played a role in four.
Offensively,
Mamie Krubally had 11 kills on .409 hitting, and Haut completed her double-double with 11 finishers to go along with her 15 digs.
Walker added eight kills from the middle with the pair of Beretich and Schlageter putting down seven apiece. Svenja Rodenbüsch chipped in three kills on six errorless tries.
Montgomery was the third Stag with a double-double, doling out 28 assists to complement her 11 digs. Jandro had 23 assists and dumped over one kill of her own.
Niagara was led by 10 kills and 11 digs from Kinga Wronska. Bella Peroni -- the Purple Eagles' libero – matched Elliott with 28 digs of her own.
Fairfield Volleyball completes the annual Western New York trip on Sunday at noon against Canisius. The Golden Griffs are 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC after a 3-2 "reverse sweep" on Sacred Heart this afternoon.
