BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out their weekend stay in Western New York and put their nine-game winning streak on the line when they face Canisius on Saturday at 1pm. Both squads enter the game with a perfect 3-0 record in the MAAC, one of three remaining conference unbeaten teams.
The Stags will also enter the contest on a nine-game winning streak, representing the longest among any school in New England and tied for the 11th longest in the nation. Fairfield is also ranked No. 12 in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Poll and was one of two teams receiving a first-place vote joining Gonzaga.
Fairfield extended that winning streak to nine after a convincing 77-54 victory over MAAC Preseason favorites Niagara on Thursday.
Freshman Road Runner
Meghan Andersen led the way as she became the first Fairfield rookie to tally 30 points in a game. She shot 11-for-16 from the floor with a 5-for-7 clip from 3-point range. She is the only Division I player in the country to be shooting 57 percent from the floor, 46 percent from long-range, and 95 percent from the free throw line.
The six-time MAAC Rookie of the Week has also made her impact nationally. She ranks sixth in the country among rookies in scoring and second in field goal percentage.
The Stags shot a season-high 56 percent in the win against Niagara including a season-best 52 percent from 3-point range.
Fairfield ranks 17th in the nation shooting 49 percent from the floor and is the 33rd most accurate team from deep with a .365 clip.
Canisius enters with an 8-4 record and is tied with the Stags for the MAAC lead with a 3-0 record. Sisi Eleko leads the team with 15.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
The Stags will next return home to host Iona on Thursday night at 7pm.
