West Coast Trip Highlights 2024 Softball Schedule

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University softball team will play a 51-game schedule that will send it as far south as North Carolina and as far west as California in 2024. The Stags' slate includes four in-season tournaments as well as more Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games to the schedule as the conference switches to a three-game series against each conference school.

"Our goal is always to play a well-rounded schedule that includes teams from difference regions and different conferences," Head Coach Julie Brzezinski said. "This year's schedule will challenge us early in the season and will also prepare us for the competitiveness of the MAAC."

The Stags open the season with four consecutive in-season tournaments beginning with a five-game set at the Pirate Clash hosted by East Carolina University from February 16-18. The road trip continues with five more dates at the University of Delaware's Blue Hen Invitational from March 1-3. Fairfield makes the cross-country trip just three days later for six games on the West Coast, playing a single game at California Baptist University on March 6 before playing three teams on the Cal-State Fullerton campus and another two programs at Long Beach State University.

Fairfield will face Yale University on the final day of its California swing before returning home to meet the Bulldogs in New Haven for a single game on March 13. The game leads into the Stags' final in-season tournament of the season when they head south for the two-day swing at the University of Maryland.

Coach Brzezinski wraps a pair of in-state non-conference games around a three-game MAAC home series against Iona University to continue the northern part of their schedule. Fairfield heads cross town for a March 20 game at Sacred Heart University, hosts Iona for three games on March 23 (doubleheader) and March 24, before ending the stretch with a single game at Central Connecticut State University on March 27

The Stags conclude March with three games at Saint Peter's University on March 28 and 29 and then return home to begin April with a non-conference tilt versus Columbia University on April 3. It's right back to the road later that week with three games at Siena College that commences with a twin bill on April 6. Six more MAAC games are on the docket following Siena as Fairfield welcomes Manhattan College on April 9-10 before making the trip to Niagara University on April 13-14.

After hosting Yale for a single game on April 17, the team chalks up six more MAAC contests with a trio of games at Rider University (April 20-21) and three more dates against Quinnipiac University at home (April 23-24). Nutmeg State competition wraps up as the Stags play home games against Central Connecticut (April 30) and Sacred Heart (May 1) before ending the regular-season with a three-game set versus Marist at home on May 3-4.

The top six teams in the MAAC regular-season standings will earn a berth to the 2024 championship which will be hosted by the regular-season champion from May 8-11. The tournament winner getting an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Fairfield qualified for the 2023 MAAC Championship after sporting an 11-9 conference slate. The Stags finished the 2023 campaign with a 22-25 overall record, winning nine of their last 11 regular-season contests.
