Stags Travel to Marist on Saturday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to continue their momentum when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday afternoon at 4pm.  The Stags will put their 12-game winning streak and their perfect 6-0 mark in the conference on the line when they meet the Red Foxes, who are winners of three-straight.

The Stags moved their overall record to 14-1 which includes an unblemished 6-0 mark in the MAAC after a close 78-73 victory over Siena on Saturday. Meghan Andersen led a trio of Stags in double figures with 23 points, 17 of those coming in the second half.

The victory extended the Fairfield winning streak to 12-straight, the third-longest active streak in the nation, behind just No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 Iowa. It is also the fourth-longest streak in program history. The 14-1 record is also the best start for the Stags in their 42-year Division I era.

The Stags have found success on both ends of the court, ranking 55th in the country in scoring offense (75.5) and in the top-25 in scoring defense (55.3). Fairfield is the most accurate shooting team in the conference with a .470 field goal percentage, the 22nd best in the NCAA.

The stifling defense of the Stags have held their opponent to a .341 field goal percentage, ranking in the top-10 in the country. That number would also be the lowest in a single season in program history.

Andersen has been at the forefront of that success, leading the conference in four different statistics including: scoring (17.9), 3-point percentage (.417), 3-pointers per game (2.3), and field goals (90). Her success has not only caught attention around the league with eight MAAC Rookie of the Week awards, but also around the nation. She was recently one of 15 players to be named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, and the only freshman to receive the honor.

That success has also helped the team to four votes in the most recent AP Top-25 poll and a No. 11 ranking in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll.

Besides the Stags, Marist is the next closest hottest team in the conference, riding a three-game winning streak. Zaria Shazer is the team's leader in scoring (14.9) and rebounding (8.5).

The Stags will stay on the road for a Thursday night game against Quinnipiac at 5pm.
