Swimming & Diving Edged In Dual Meets With James Madison & George Mason

The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped dual meets with James Madison University and George Mason University this afternoon, events hosted by JMU. George Mason swept the Stags by edging the men's team by a 181.00 to 119.00 score and the women's squad by a 152.00 to 147.00 count. James Madison also posted a 206.00 to 87.00 decision over the Stags on the women's side as well.

The men's team secured seven event victories while the women's team added two first-place finishes to their team totals. Andrew Cataldo (247.90 points) secured the top spot in the 1 meter dive while Dillon O'Connor (240.05 points) matched that finish in the 3 meter dive. Tim Regan collected the best time (1:42.88) in the 200 free as did Hans Lim in the 200 fly (1:55.19).  Jeffrey Vlass garnered first in the 200 breaststroke by touching the wall in 2:07.06. Sydney Scalise (5:11.99) and Joseph Stewart (4:45.68) combined to sweep the 500 free events for Fairfield.  Erini Pappas and Ed Hunt each took first place in their respective 200 IM races, touching the wall in 2:10.43 and 1:56.01, respectively.

Fairfield had 25 finishes in the top three during the meet. Stewart highlighted the men's performances with three top times, taking first in the 500 free as well as second in the 1000 free (9:54.71) and the 50 free (21.73). Lim also secured three top three swims during the afternoon, taking 2nd in the 200 IM (1:59.62) and the 100 fly (52.31) while also winning the 200 fly.

Pappas tallied team points in three events as well, registering the top time in the 200 IM but also securing third place in the 200 back (2:06.96) and sixth in the 100 back (58.44).

The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will now turn their focus to their final dual meet of the season when they host Iona University on January 20 at the RecPlex Pool before preparing for the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship which will be held in Cleveland from February 14-17.
