Stags Close Out Home Weekend Against Siena

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out their home weekend at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena when they welcome the Siena Saints in a rematch of last year's MAAC Quarterfinals. The Stags will bring an 11-game winning streak into the contest, the sixth longest in the nation and the fourth longest in program history.

Fairfield extended their winning streak to 11-straight after a 72-41 victory over Iona on Thursday. The win also improved their overall record to 13-1, the best start in Fairfield's 42-year Division I program history.

Izabela Nicoletti-Leite led the Stags with her third career double-double and her first of the season with 18 points and a career-high 10 assists. Nicoletti-Leite connected on all six of her shot attempts from the floor including all four from long-range. She went a blistering 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point arc in the second quarter.

The Fairfield defense shined in the win, allowing just 44 points to Iona, tying the fewest allowed to an opponent this season. The Stags also held the Gaels without a 3-point field goal, the first time this year Iona has not hit a long-range shot.

For the season, the Stags are in the top-20 in the country in all defensive shooting metrics including: scoring defense (54.0), opponent field goal percentage (.333), and opponent 3-point field goal percentage (.248).

The Stags are also the last remaining unbeaten conference team, standing alone in first place with a 5-0 conference mark.

Siena enters the game with a 6-7 overall record and a 3-2 record in the MAAC after a thrilling victory over Niagara. Ahniysha Jackson is the team's leading scorer at 12.2 points per game. Elisa Mevius, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads the conference in steals (4.3) and is also the team leader in assists (3.9).

Fairfield will have a little break, next taking the court in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Marist on Saturday at 4pm.
