FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team took down the Mount St. Mary Mountaineers with a 3-0 final score on Senior Day. Sophomore
Maddy Theriault led the way with two goals and an assist while senior
Elle Scott tallied a goal and an assist on Senior Day.
"I'm pleased to get the three points," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "First win in the league. We said this is the start of the next chapter of our season so we certainly got off to a good start. First half was real good, second half was pretty good. We're still looking to put together a full 90 minutes of consistency and high level but certainly feel good about this performance today and being 1-0 in the league."
The Stags dominated play throughout the match, out-shooting the Mount 32-7, including an outstanding 20-0 in the first half.
It took the Stags just three minutes to get into the scoring column when Scott recovered a deflected shot from Theriault and snuck her shot past the keeper for her first score of the year.
Fairfield would add one more score before the end of the half as Theriault begun her scoring of the day as she took a tapped pass from senior
Angela Filosa and converted her 1v1 chance against the keeper to give the Stags a 2-0 advantage.
The Stags would close their scoring with Theriault once again leading the way. Scott would play the ball down the field, finding Theriault on the channel and she launched her shot to the right side of the net for a 3-0 lead. The score would increase her MAAC leading total to six this year.
On her senior day, Scott would tally her 15th career goal and her 13th career assist. Filosa would dish out her second career helper.
The Fairfield defensive line held the Mount to just seven shots without a shot on goal.
Katie Wright picked up her third shutout of the season and the seventh of her career without needing to make a save.
The Stags will have a week off before their next match when they welcome the Rider Broncs to Lessing Field on Saturday night at 7pm.
