Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Silverman’s First Career Goal Leads to Draw Against UMass Lowell

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Aubrey Silverman netted her first career goal in the 31st minute to give the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team a 1-0 lead, but UMass Lowell was able to tie the match in the second half, leading to a 1-1 draw at Lessing Field on Sunday afternoon. The River Hawks goal in the 68th minute was the only shot on goal allowed by the Stags in the game.

"I thought we let this one get away from us," Head Coach David Barrett said. "We created plenty of chances to score, we defended really well, we just fell asleep on one restart and it cost us. I thought we defended really well today, we were really well-organized, worked hard, we just didn't execute details as well as we would have liked."

For the second-straight match, the Stags (1-0-1) out-shot their opposition as they registered 23 shots compared to just six from the River Hawks. It was also the second-straight game where the Stags have attempted 20 or more shots.

After attempting just one shot in the first 20 minutes, the Stags would have six shots in the span of just seven minutes, with the best chance being a Maddie Kiely ball that was cleared by a defender at the goal line.

Silverman would get the Stags on the board just three minutes after that barrage as she launched a long shot that snuck into the top right corner of the goal for her first career goal. Allie Kirby was credited with the assist, her second-straight game tallying a point.

The Stags would have three golden opportunities right near the goal after Meghan Carragher sent a service into the box on a corner kick. Sam Kersey's shot would hit the post, Kiely's shot was blocked, and Silverman finished up the chances with a ball off the post.

Fairfield would create more chances in the second half, starting with a 1v1 opportunity from Maddy Theriault who beat the defensive line but her last touch was a little bit long and ended up at the far right of the goal.

On a free kick, Carragher sent a ball nearly 25 yards out that grazed the post, the third attempt that hit the post for the Stags.

In the final five minutes, Reagan Klarmann had a chance for the game winner but her attempt missed a few inches over the net to keep the game tied.

The River Hawks had just six attempts in the match, with one shot on goal. That attempt came from their leading scorer Calliste Brookshire off a short corner, their only corner kick of the match. The Stags attempted 13 corners.

Fairfield, who extended their non-conference home unbeaten streak to 16 games, will put that streak to the test when they host nationally-ranked Harvard on Friday night at 6pm.
