Women's Rowing Places Second At MAAC Championships

Stags Pick Up A Medal in V8, 2V8, V4, 2V4

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team enjoyed a fine day on the water by earning the number two spot in the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship with 32 team points, trailing only Jacksonville University's 42 team points. The Stags earned a medal in all four events highlighted by second-place run by the 2nd varsity 8.

The varsity 8 started this morning's championship with a third-place finish, completing the course in 7:19.77 behind Jacksonville (7:12.34) and Marist College (7:15.83). The Stags entry included coxswain Erin Dobbs, Arden Costello, Adalia Flores, Kathryn Bergstrom, Catherine Morrissey, Emily Regan, Chloe Lennon, Arianna Welton, and Florencia Caces. 

The second varsity 8 took home the team's highest finish with its silver-medal performance as a result of its time of 7:32.21, coming in ahead of Sacred Heart University, Marist , Canisius College, Stetson University, and Drake University. Jacksonville was the only crew to finish ahead of the Stags with its time of 7:18.84. Fairfield, which handled the distance in 7:32.21. Fairfield was represented coxswain Ellery McSpedon, Grace McDonough, Emma Szachta, Christina Caruso, Isabella King, Caroline McAndrews, Meghan Megill, Sarah Wendling, and Miranda Schmidt.

The varsity 4 also secured a bronze medal based on its run of 8:21.35, trailing Jacksonville (7:56.59) and Sacred Heart (8:16.55). Coxswain Marianna Kalin, Mia Van Mater, Olivia Burghardt, Kelly Cullen, and Julianna Pedrazzi comprised the Stags boat. Marist (8:26.56), Stetson (8:52.02), Drake (9:07.35), and Canisius (9:12.12) rounded out the field.

Fairfield entered two shells in the second varsity 4 with the B boat collecting a third-place finish (8:32.28) followed by the A boat's time of 8:41.17). Jacksonville completed the sweep by holding down the top two spots in the event standings with the B boat winning the race (7:57.55) and the A boat following with its time of 7:59.76. The Stags' B boat included coxswain Alexandra Tomlinson, Lillian Krol, Chloe Trudel, Alyson Moore and Kara Davidson. The A boat consisted of coxswain Michaela Thompson, Megan Rourke, Giovanna Enderle, Cassandra Reilly, and Alyssa Colombrita.
