WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – After a victory on Saturday afternoon in convincing fashion, the Fairfield University men's tennis team battled with co-league champion Siena throughout Sunday's title match, but the Saints took the victory to win the MAAC Championship, 4-0.
With severe weather moving in overnight, rain forced the two sides to the indoor courts at Mercer County Tennis Center on championship morning, and they would split the first two doubles' contest of the day. Winning for the Stags at the No. 1 slot was Jonathan Olive-Blanco and Tolunay Sumer who garnered their win 6-2 to draw level in doubles at 1-1.
Siena would take the doubles' point and go into singles with the advantage. Olive-Blanco took an opening set victory for his side in the top flight and, in the No. 2 spot, Kaya Gore would take a victory to force a third set, but the Saints picked up three singles victories before the top two matches concluded.
Fairfield men's tennis concludes the 2022-23 campaign with eight dual victories and a share of its first MAAC Regualr Season Championship since 2009.
