LAST TIME OUT
Nationally-ranked #20 Delaware gained a 4-1 lead in the first quarter of last Saturday's visit from Fairfield, and the host Blue Hens never looked back as the Stags were on the short side of 17-7 final at Delaware Stadium.
Bryce Ford had a three-point day, with
Max Paparozzi and
Will Consoli each scoring twice.
Ford's three points came on a goal and two assists. In addition to the two markers apiece for Consoli and Paparozzi,
Dean Ford scored one and
Davis Allen returned to action and netted his first goal as a Stag.
Rounding out the attack was
Hank D'Ambrogi with two assists.
In the midfield, the Stags split the faceoff battle, 14-14.
Dylan Smith went 12-for-24 at the X with five ground balls, and
Tim Lucky was 2-for-4 in relief.
The Fairfield backline was led by three caused turnovers for
Zack Antoniou and three ground balls by
Braden Lynch.
Will Snyder went the distance in the cage and finished with 14 saves.
THE MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY HAWKS
Coming off of the first CAA win in program history, Monmouth is 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the league in its inaugural CAA campaign. In addition to last Saturday's win at Hampton, the Hawks hold victories over NJIT, LIU, Wagner and The Mount.
Having reached double-digit goals on only four occasions, Monmouth ranks seventh in the CAA and 66th nationally with 8.82 goals per game. However, the Hawks have made up for that margin on the defensive side, where they slot second in the league and 21st in the nation with just 11.09 goals per game allowed.
Cade Stratton paces the Monmouth attack with 28 points comprised of 19 goals and nine assists. Ty Caffarelli adds a team-best 20 goals to go along with three helpers. Matt Soutar has kept the offense on the field, winning 55.4 percent (134-242) of his faceoffs with 86 ground balls, and also has four goals and an assist to his credit.
Goalkeeper Andrew Kuhlman owns a 10.99 goals-against average and a .485 save percentage with 112 saves and 119 goals allowed in his 650 minutes of action. All three starting defensemen - Miles Edmiston, Ryan Morris and Michael Quigg - have recorded 11 caused turnovers, with starting LSM Scooter Whiteside adding 10.
ALL-TIME SERIES
While Fairfield and Monmouth spent the last decade as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes in most sports, today's game is the first-ever meeting between the Stags and Hawks in men's lacrosse.
Monmouth, which joined the CAA as a full-member institution this year, began competing in Division I Men's Lacrosse in 2014.
UP NEXT
The final road game of the 2023 regular season sends the Stags to Stony Brook next Saturday, April 22 for a noon faceoff with the Seawolves. Fairfield and Stony Brook have met on 10 occasions as non-conference foes, but will tangle as CAA opponents for the first time next weekend on Long Island.
