FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse plays its second straight road game with a Saturday visit to Providence. Opening faceoff between the Stags and Friars is slated for noon.
LAST TIME OUT
In a back-and-forth game of goals and saves, host Richmond had the last marker and the last stop to hold off Fairfield, 10-8, this past Sunday in River City.
Bryce Ford had his second straight five-point day for the Stags with three goals and two assists.
In addition to Ford's hat trick, his fellow starting attackmen
Jack McKenna and
Max Paparozzi each scored twice. McKenna also dished out an assist for a three-point day.
Will Consoli capped the scoring with the seventh goal of his freshman campaign.
In the midfield,
Dylan Smith held his own against Richmond's returning All-SoCon faceoff man Jared Chenoy, finishing 9-for-21 with seven ground balls for the Stags.
Both goalkeepers made key saves in the contest, with Fairfield's
Will Snyder making seven of his 11 stops in the second half.
WILL SNYDER: CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
After recording a .571 save percentage in his first two appearances as a Stag,
Will Snyder has been selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week. Snyder totaled 20 saves and posted a 7.50 goals-against average in the Stags' 1-1 week of non-league action.
In his collegiate debut against Sacred Heart, Snyder stifled the Pioneers with nine saves while conceding only five goals in a convincing 17-5 victory. Snyder returned to the cage on Sunday at Richmond, where he made 11 stops with two ground balls as the Stags went toe-to-toe with the reigning SoCon Champion and inaugural preseason Atlantic-10 favorite Spiders.
THE PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FRIARS
Providence returns home after consecutive road losses at Brown and #12 Saint Joseph's to fall to 2-3. The Friars are 0-3 away from Anderson Stadium, also dropping a one-goal game at Bryant, and are 2-0 at home with victories over Holy Cross and Siena.
Ryan Bell is the Friars' leading point scorer with 11 goals and 13 assists, while Michael Chabra and Jack Horrigan have filled up the nets with 14 and 13 goals, respectively.
After Saint Joseph's All-American Zach Cole went a perfect 24-for-24 last week, Providence is winning just 24.3 percent of faceoffs this season. Tom Fegley is 20-for-63 (31.7 percent) as the Friars' first option on the draw.
The Providence cage is protected by a familiar face in
James Corasaniti, who holds a .556 save percentage in his graduate season with the Friars after four years as a Stag.
The Friars went 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the Big East last season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Fairfield leads 12-5 in the all-time series with Providence. The Stags' 15-11 win at Rafferty Stadium last March avoided their first back-to-back losses to the Friars since consecutive setbacks in 1993-94, Fairfield's first two campaigns as a varsity program.
UP NEXT
The Stags return to Rafferty Stadium for the only back-to-back home outings of the campaign against Bryant (March 7) and Binghamton (March 11).
