Pagliarini Hits For The Cycle in Loss at Central Connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Charlie Pagliarini hit for the cycle with a team-high five hits, and the Fairfield University Baseball team put up 12 runs, but it was not enough as the Stags fell 16-12 in non-conference action at Central Connecticut State. Pagliarini also led the team with five RBI in the setback.
 
In total, the Stags had 25 baserunners on 14 hits, six walks, and five hit by pitches.
 
Fairfield was able to scratch across six runs in the first two innings to open the game. Pagliarini had the first run scoring hit of the game with a triple to start his historic day. Matt Bergevin would drive him home with a sacrifice fly, his MAAC leading fourth of the season.
 
The Stags added four more runs in the second highlighted by a bases clearing double by Venuto to put the score at 6-5.
 
Pagliarini would continue his historic day with a homer in the sixth and a RBI double in the seventh. He put a cap on his day with a two-run triple in the ninth. Coming into the game, Pagliarini led the league with a .550 on-base percentage, the 15th highest in the nation. He was also second in the MAAC with his .786 slugging percentage. He would finish the day 5-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBI.
 
The Blue Devils, who were picked as co-Preseason favorites in the NEC, hit five home runs for their 16-9 decision.
 
Griffin Watson also reached base four times with a hit and three hit by pitches. Bergevin drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly, a bases loaded walk, and a single in the ninth. Matt Venuto drove in three with his double in the second.
 
Noah Lucier also had a multi-hit game with a pair of base knocks.
 
The Stags will now turn their attention to MAAC play when they host the Siena Saints in their MAAC and home opener for a three-game set starting on Friday at 2pm.
