Karman Secures Singles Win Against South Dakota

ORLANDO, FLA. – A three-set victory for Francesca Karman Wednesday morning capped off a delayed ending to a match that started Monday for the Fairfield University women's tennis team, which fell to South Dakota 5-1. The match was concluded Wednesday afternoon after rain delayed the match two days prior with SDU leading 1-0.

"It was an odd match having to stop halfway through singles due to rain," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We battled hard and we're a couple points away from evening the match up."

Karman at No. 6 singles captured the opening set of her duel 6-3, and after falling in the second, bounced back with another 6-3 victory in the third set to take the match and secure a point for her side. The two sides did not play a doubles round because of the scheduling constraints leaving the final scoreline to be decided solely in singles action.

Fairfield women's tennis will conclude its trip down South Thursday afternoon alongside the men's squad as they both take on Marquette from the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
