FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will compete in their final home game of the Leo D. Mahoney Arena inaugural season when they host the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Thursday evening at 5pm. The game will be the first of a Fairfield basketball doubleheader with the men's squad facing off against Quinnipiac at 8pm. The program will also celebrate Pride Night during the contest.
The Stags snapped a four-game losing streak in their last time out with one of their best offensive showings of the season with a 73-57 victory over Marist. The Stags tied a season-high with 11 3-pointers while recording their best 3-point shooting percentage of the year at a 56 percent clip. The hot-shooting continued on the free throw line as Fairfield hit eight of their nine attempts, their best percentage of the year.
Three Stags scored in double figures, led by
Callie Cavanaugh's 18. She raised her Fairfield career total to 1,044 ranking 31st on the all-time list.
Lauren Beach set a career-high with 14 points, the first time in her career she has reached double figures in scoring.
Four different Stags hit a 3-pointer in the game, as the squad went 11-for-20 from 3-point range. The 11 3-pointers was the most by the Stags in a MAAC regular season game since they hit 13 on Dec. 12, 2020 at Siena with a program-record 11 of those coming from
Sam Lewis.
Saint Peter's is led in scoring by Jada Leonard who averages 10.3 points per game. Former Stag
Jazmine Carter has appeared in 26 games with 3.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
The Stags will close out their regular season with the short trip up to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
