Stags Close Out Non-Conference Slate at Stonehill on Saturday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out their non-conference schedule while also taking the court for the final time during the 2023 calendar year when they travel to play Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at 2pm. The Stags are currently riding a seven-game winning streak which is tied for the 20th longest in the nation and the longest among any school in New England.

The Stags extended that winning streak and swept their four-game homestand with a convincing 82-58 victory over Manhattan last Monday.

Fairfield was led by a career-high 26 points from freshman Road Runner Meghan Andersen, who filled out the stat sheet with: seven rebounds, three 3-pointers, three assists, one steal, and one block. For her efforts she won two MAAC Weekly Awards, sharing the conference's Co-Player of the Week for the first time in her career while also earning her fifth MAAC Rookie of the Week honor. The five Rookie of the Week accolades are one shy of the program's single season record, last accomplished by Casey Smith in 2015.

The seven non-conference victories are the most by the Stags in a single season since the 2011-12 campaign. Fairfield has not won eight or more games out of conference in the same season since the 2007-08 slate.

Without playing a game, the Stags still moved up the rankings in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 rankings as they currently sit 18th in the poll. Among teams listed, Fairfield is tied for fifth with their nine wins.

Stonehill enters the game with an 0-12 record and will also be playing in their final non-conference contest. Jada Thornton is the team's leading scorer averaging 9.7 points per game.

The Stags will next fully turn their attention to MAAC play, traveling to Western New York starting with an early morning contest against Niagara on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 11am.
