BOSTON, Mass. – Two school records fell on day two of the Terrier Invitational as the men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded another strong session in the pool. After today's events, the men's team places third in the team standings with 856.5 points while the women's team ranks fourth in the standings with 651 points.
Tone Sandsjo also set the school standard as well as a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record in the 100 breaststroke, placing first overall with a time of 1:01.45. The time also was a NCAA B Cut so she will be in consideration for NCAA qualifying.
The women's 200 medley relay record fell behind the efforts of A team members
Erini Pappas, Sandsjo,
Maggie O'Donnell, and Nora Segurola Larrinaga. The foursome combined for a school record time of 1:42.74 to finish fifth in the event. The men's A team also took fifth place in the 200 medley relay by completing the event in 1:33.12 as Oliver McLaughlin, Hans Lim, Alex Sirkowa, and Patrick Gill represented the Stags.
Callie Gray and
Erin Hoyland placed in the top five of the 400 IM with Gray touching the wall in 4:27.28 and Hoyland registering a time of 4:28.52. The men also took two of the top five spots in the event after Ed Hunt secured second place in 3:59.85 and Jeffrey Vlass collected fifth place in 4:10.87.
In the 100 fly,
Maggie O'Donnell was the top Fairfield finisher with the 14
th best overall time and fourth in the B final, swimming the race in 57.43. Alex Sirkowa scored points with his seventh-place swim (51.44) in the 100 fly on the men's side.
The 200 free was next up on the docket and
Cailey Stockwell garnered the Stags' best time in the event by completing the race in 1:57.18 which was strong enough for eighth overall. Joseph Stewart was just over a second off the pace in the event for the men, taking the runner-up position with his mark of 1:38.58. Tim Regan came in a close third place by finishing the race in 1:40.20.
The women's team put another pair of swimmers in the top 10 in the 100 back with Nora Segurola Larrinaga holding down the second slot by setting a school record (54.71) and
Erini Pappas garnering the 10
th slot (56.68). Oliver McLaughlin finished in a tie for fourth with his time of 50.90 with Patrick Gill coming in right behind him in 52.25.
The women's 800 free relay A team recorded the Stags' top time (7:42.34) behind Nora Segurola Larrinaga,
Erini Pappas,
Cailey Stockwell, and
Erin Hoyland. The men's A relay team collected third in the event with its time of 6:47.92. The unit was comprised by Ed Hunt, Tim Regan, Aidan Schnapf, and Joseph Stewart.
On the diving board,
Alexis Gaulin gathered seventh place by netting 211.80 points in the 3 meter event.
Lia Oppenheim was fourth in the B final and 14
th overall based on her 190.00 points. The men's teams competed on the 1 meter board with Noah Duncan placing highest for the Stags, taking fifth with his 193.60 points. Tyler Robie (180.30) and Andrew Cataldo (177.75) secured seventh and eighth places respectively.
The final day of the Terrier Invitational takes place on Sunday with preliminaries starting at 10 am and the finals beginning at 5 pm.
