Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stags Rock N’ Roll Over Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Five Stags tallied double-figures as the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team rolled for their second-straight win with an 89-66 victory over Lipscomb to open up their stay in the Music City. Freshman Meghan Andersen led the way as she tallied a game-high 23 points while connecting on five 3-pointers.

"It was a great road win," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "Road wins are hard to come by and that's a really good team and were picked second in the league for a reason. Our team did a great job of playing together and executing the game plan, for the most part minus getting a little foul happy. I'm really proud of how they shared the ball and executed offensively."

The Stags (2-0) started the game on an offensive tear, connecting on seven of their first eight 3-point attempts to open up a 21-5 lead. Andersen swished through three of those attempts with Kaety L'Amoreaux adding a pair and Nicole Gallagher capping the run with a deep shot, forcing a Bisons' timeout.

Fairfield would keep a double-digit advantage the entire game with Lipscomb (1-1) cutting the score to 10 points at 37-27 at the 1:22 mark of the first half, the closest the Bison would get.

The Stags' hot-shooting kept the Bison at bay connecting on 50 percent of their long-range shots in the first half.

Fairfield would open up their lead to 20 in the second half, leading by as many as 23 with a Janelle Brown 3-pointer to close out the game.

Fairfield held the Bison, a team pre-ranked second in the ASUN after winning 20 games last season, to just 18 made field goals and shooting just 28 percent. Lipscomb tallied 23 of their 66 points from the free throw line.

L'Amoreaux was the second freshman to reach the 20-point plateau as she finished with 20 points on four made 3-pointers. Brown finished with 18 on an efficient 6-for-10 shooting and tying for the team-high with three steals. Gallagher also had an efficient offensive game making five of her eight shot attempts while collecting 12 points and swiping three steals. Kendall McGruder rounded out the quintet of double-digit scorers with 10 points and three assists.

Andersen just missed recording her first career double-double with her 23 points, nine rebounds, while also blocking six shots and dishing three assists.

The Stags would out-score Lipscomb in all but one quarter and missing that mark by just one point in the second.

It was the first time the Stags have scored 80 or more points in back-to-back games since Feb. 14-16, 2004.

Fairfield will look to continue their hot-shooting and conclude their stay in the state of Tennessee when they head to Vanderbilt on Sunday for a 2pm EST contest.
