Stags Open Three-Match Homestand with Wednesday Visit from Manhattan

Fairfield enters the week in a race for the top seed in the MAAC Championship

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The final homestand of the 2023 regular season begins on Wednesday when Fairfield University Volleyball hosts Manhattan at Leo D. Mahoney Arena. First serve between the Stags and Jaspers is slated for 7 p.m.
 
The Fairfield University Stags (15-6, 11-2 MAAC)
  • The Stags most recently saw their eight-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday with a 3-1 loss at Quinnipiac.
  • Fairfield and Quinnipiac (12-2) are currently tied in the loss column after splitting their home-and-home series this fall. As both matches were decided by 3-1 scores, the Bobcats secured the tiebreaker over the Stags by a single point, per the MAAC Tiebreaker Policy.
  • After the weekend's results around the MAAC, Fairfield has officially clinched a berth in the MAAC Championship for the 28th consecutive season.
  • Fairfield continues to lead the MAAC in hitting percentage (.200) and opponent hitting percentage (.152). Conference opponents are hitting just .124 in 13 matches against the Stags.
  • All six of Fairfield's primary hitting options are putting down at least 1.60 kills per set, led by Mikayla Haut with 2.72 finishers per set.
 
The Manhattan College Jaspers (9-17, 6-8 MAAC)
  • Manhattan currently holds the longest active winning streak in the MAAC, putting together five wins in a row to pull into postseason contention at 6-8.
  • The Jaspers hold MAAC wins over Marist and Rider in addition to sweeping the home-and-home series from both Siena and Saint Peter's.
  • Mikalah Curran has been Manhattan's top hitter, ranking sixth in the MAAC with 2.99 kills per set. Camila Gomez is just outside the top 10 with 2.70 kills per frame.
  • In conference play, Maike Bertens has come on as one of the league's top finishers. She ranks second behind QU's Ginevra Giovagnoni with 4.19 kills per set.
 
The First Meeting: Fairfield 3, Manhattan 0 (Sept. 30, 2023)
  • The Stags swept the Jaspers at Draddy Gym on Sept. 30 by set scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-17.
  • Mikayla Haut led a balanced Fairfield attack with nine kills on .444 hitting.
  • All six Fairfield hitters had four or more kills on 18 or fewer swings as the Stags hit .330 as a team.
  • Kyla Berg led the Fairfield defense with 11 digs.
  • Mikalah Curran led all hitters with 11 kills for the Jaspers.
  • The win was Fairfield's 18th straight over Manhattan. The Stags are 55-7 in the all-time series.
