Pivotal MAAC Clash Sends Stags to Quinnipiac

11-1 Fairfield meets 11-2 Quinnipiac, Sunday at 1 p.m.

 FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The top two teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will complete their annual home-and-home series this Sunday, when Fairfield University Volleyball travels to Hamden to visit Quinnipiac. First serve on Burt Kahn Court is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
The Fairfield University Stags (15-5, 11-1 MAAC)
  • The Stags swept the MAAC Buffalo trip last weekend to claim sole possession of first place in the MAAC at 11-1. Fairfield is one game in the loss column ahead of Quinnipiac (11-2) and three in front of Marist (9-4) and Niagara (8-4).
  • The victories at Canisius and Niagara pushed the Stags' winning streak to eight consecutive matches. Fairfield also locked up its 27th straight season with a winning record in MAAC play.
  • The Stags continue to lead the MAAC in both hitting percentage (.204) and opponent hitting percentage (.148).
  • Mikayla Haut's 2.65 kills per set lead a balanced attack that boasts six hitters averaging 1.60 kills per frame or better.
  • Allie Elliott adds 2.52 kills per set on .223 hitting. Elliott and Haut (.204) are two of only four MAAC hitters with over 500 swings that are hitting above .200 on the season.
 
The Quinnipiac University Bobcats (15-7, 11-2 MAAC)
  • The Bobcats bounced back from their second MAAC loss last Saturday at Niagara with a Sunday sweep of Canisius and a Wednesday evening win over Iona to move to 11-2.
  • Quinnipiac's scoring is fueled by MAAC highs in both kills (12.83/set) and service aces (1.86/set).
  • The Bobcats' lineup includes three players averaging over three kills per set, led by 3.80 from Ginevra Giovagnoni.
  • Damla Gunes runs the QU attack with a league-leading 10.18 assists per stanza.
 
The First Meeting: Fairfield 3, Quinnipiac 1 (Oct. 6, 2023)
  • The Stags took a four-set contest at Mahoney Arena on Oct. 6 to kickoff the home-and-home with the Bobcats.
  • Mikayla Haut paced the Fairfield attack, putting down 19 kills on .421 hitting from the pins.­­­ Haut was just shy of a double-double with nine digs and also had a hand in five of the Stags' 12 blocks.
  • Blakely Montgomery managed the Stags from the setter spot and finished with 38 assists as well as six digs and three kills of her own. The Stags swung at a .237 clip for the match.
  • Defensively, Kyla Berg led the way from the libero spot with a match-high 25 digs.
  • Ginevra Giovagnoni led QU with a match-high 21 kills and completed a double-double with 15 digs.
  • Aryanah Diaz added 16 kills for the Bobcats.

  • The Stags close out the regular season home slate with three matches at Mahoney Arena next week.
  • Fairfield hosts Manhattan on Wednesday, Nov. 1, Siena on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Marist on Sunday, Nov. 5.
  • Saturday's match will be Senior Day for the Stags, with graduate student Elle Shult and seniors Kyla Berg and Noelle Carey set to be recognized prior to the match.
