FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs returned to the Rec-Plex pool and came away with a sweep of Providence College. The men's team posted a 182-116 victory over the Friars while the women's squad scored a 189-110 win.
The Stags won 17 swimming events throughout the evening including all four relays races. Fairfield also swept the diving competition with
Lia Oppenheim posting first-place point totals in the 1 and 3 meter dives while Dillion O'Connor (3 meter) and Andrew Cataldo (1 meter) took the top spot in the men's competition.
Fairfield not only posted first-place finishes but the teams place multiple student-athletes in the top two spots eight times and swept first, second, and third-places in four events. The Stags' three-place sweeps came in the men's 200 free behind the efforts of Joseph Stewart (1:55.88), Tim Regan (1:57.40), and Aidan Schnapf (1:57.46). On the women's side, Fairfield pulled another sweep in the 400 IM as
Erini Pappas (5:06.33),
Callie Gray (5:11.39), and
Olivia Glaser (5:16.65) occupied the top three spots. The men's diving team also picked first through third places in the 1M (Andrew Cataldo (248.25); Dillon O'Connor (235.35); Noah Duncan (185.93) and 3M (Dillon O'Connor (235.58); Andrew Cataldo (224.03); Noah Duncan (202.73)
The relay teams were also successful on the evening with the women's 400 free relay team recorded a best time of 4:00.33 as did the men's 400 free relay with a time of 3:31.43. The women's 400 medley relay team completed the distance in 4:21.85 for first place while the men's 400 medley relay team touched the wall in 3:51.89.
The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will continue their weekend with another home meet on Saturday. The Stags will welcome Wagner College for a dual meet with the diving competition commencing at 10 am followed by the swimming events at 11:30 am.
