FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs will host a pair of dual meets this weekend beginning with Providence College on Friday afternoon. The Stags will return to the water on Saturday when they welcome Wagner College to the RecPlex Pool.
After the schedule provided a weekend off, Head Coach
Jacy Dyer will lead her team back into dual meet competition. The Stags will compete in back-to-back meets for the second time this season, the first coming with stops at Monmouth University and Rider University two weeks ago. Fairfield enjoyed a successful start to the meet season by sweeping the Hawks before the program split with the Broncs on the following day.
Joseph Stewart and
Nora Segurola-Larrinaga enjoyed a successful performance in that opening weekend with each student-athlete collecting the Swimmer of the Week award from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Stewart earned five first-place finishes with four coming individually and another a member of the 400 medley relay to receive his weekly honor. Segurola-Larrinaga secured four individual wins and four relay victories over the two meets to garner her weekly honor.
Providence opened the season by hosting the Providence Invitational with Roger Williams University. The Friars secured first-place finishes in all individual and relay events for their successful opening date. The Wagner women's team swept a tri-meet with Iona University and Sacred Heart University while the men's team came up short against Iona for its opening meet.
Fairfield and Providence will compete on Friday with the diving portion beginning at 3 pm and the swimming events starting approximately at 4:30 pm. The Stags and Wagner will have an earlier start on Saturday with the divers competing at 10 am and the swimmers competing around 11:30 am.
