Stags Wrap Up Unbeaten Homestand with 3-0 Sweep of Saint Peter’s

Allie Elliott led the way with her second straight double-double

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball closed out a 4-0 homestand at Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Saint Peter's. Allie Elliott led the Fairfield attack with 15 kills and 10 digs.

With their sixth consecutive win, the Stags improve to 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the MAAC. Fairfield remains tied atop the MAAC standings with 9-1 Quinnipiac, while Marist sits one-game back in the loss column at 9-2. The Peacocks remain winless on the year at 0-22 with an 0-11 conference tally.

"Three matches in five days at this stage of the season is a bit of a grind, and overall, I'm happy with how we performed during this stretch," said Head Coach Nancy Somera. "We are a competitive group, and I think that shows in our consistency and in the way that we have maintained a high level of play lately. Even in situations like the second set today where we were tied at 22-22, I think we thrive in that kind of environment, and playing in more scenarios like that will only help us going forward."

Elliott's double-double today was her second in a row and fifth of the season. She hit a scorching .355 from the pins, following up on Saturday's .429 performance. Her counterpart on the outside, Mikayla Haut, added seven kills on .261 hitting with six digs.

Supplementing the attack, Mamie Krubally finished with six kills and the trio of Janna Schlageter, Maya Walker and Svenja Rodenbusch each put down five.

Setting duties were shared by Blakely Montgomery and Abby Jandro, who doled out 21 and 14 assists, respectively. The Stags' attack was humming en route to a .327 hitting percentage. That number was sparked by a massive .692 clip in Set 1 that featured 19 kills and just one attack error on 26 swings.

Defensively Elliott was joined in double-digit digs by Kyla Berg with 13 and Noelle Carey with 12. Berg also dished out six assists in the contest, while Carey took a swing from the back row and landed a kill. The Fairfield block put down five rejections, led by three for Walker.

How It Happened

SET 1 | Led by a red-hot .692 hitting percentage, the Stags cruised out to an 18-2 lead in the opening set. Elliott put down eight kills on nine errorless swings in the frame as the Stags coasted to a 25-7 decision.

SET 2 | The second was the most competitive of the day, featuring 11 ties and six lead changes. The Stags trailed as late as 22-20 in the stanza before running off three straight points to take the lead. SPU would knot the score once more at 23-23 before a block by Schlageter and Montgomery followed by an Elliott kill sealed the 25-23 win to stake Fairfield to a 2-0 lead in the match.

SET 3 | The Stags scored the first four points and led wire-to-wire in Set 3. The final margin was the largest for the frame as the Stags scored the match's final five points to ice the 25-11 decision and the 3-0 sweep.
