Swimming & Diving Earn A Split At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams finished up the weekend with a split against Rider University on the road. The women's team secured a 176-123 victory against the Broncs while the men's team dropped a 172-128 decision to the host school.

The women's team enjoyed a quick start to the meet by winning four of the first five events to give them a solid advantage in the team scoring. The women's 200 medley relay earned a win in the opening event with Nora Segurola Larrinaga, Tone Sandsjo, Erini Pappas, and Olivia Thompson combining for a winning time of 1:47.62.

Erin Hoyland brought home a second-place swim in the 1000 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:43.37. Segurola Larrinaga kept the successful start going when she garnered a first-place effort in the 200 free, timing in at 1:57.38. Erini Pappas posted the top time in the 100 backstroke by clocking in at 59.10. Sandsjo was next in line for a first-place finish, taking the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.82.

Olivia Thompson and Lily Barker combined for a one-two finish in the 50 free, securing the placement in 24.89 and 25.46 respectively. The divers took the stage next and Lia Oppenheim delivered a top performance by scoring an event-best 207.90 points in the 3 meter dive.

Thompson was in the pool once again, this time taking second in the 100 free with her time of 54.74 which was just off the winning time of 54.51. Segurola Larrinaga was a winner for the third time when she collected first-place designation in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:07.36. Sandsjo kept things rolling when she completed the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.0 for the top spot.

Olivia Glaser and Maggie O'Donnell each secured second-place spots in the 500 free (5:20.08) and the 100 fly (1:00.21) respectively. Alexis Gaulin completed the diving sweep for Fairfield by earning a meet-best 218.63 points in the 1 meter event. Pappas closed out the individual events for the Stags with a first-place effort in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:12.50.

The men's team also enjoyed individual success against the Broncs, starting with Joseph Stewart's winning time of 9:56.06 in the 1000 free to start the meet. Tim Regan made it two in a row for the Stags with his effort in the 200 free, sporting a time of 1:42.06 for the top time. Oliver McLaughlin served as Fairfield's top finisher in the 100 backstroke, earning third place off his time of 51.65. Hans Lim grabbed second in the 100 breaststroke by completing the distance in 58.59.

Ed Hunt and Alexey Belfer were in the running in their events with both student-athletes taking second place in the 200 fly (1:55.92) and the 50 free (21.41) respectively. Cameron Pope opened the diving competition for Fairfield with his team-best 203.70 points which rated third in the 1 meter standings. Regan (47.07) and Belfer (47.83) finished second and third in the 100 free.

Stewart earned another first-place finish, this time the success coming in the 500 free based on his finish of 4:46.85. Regan garnered third place in the 100 fly (52.45) while Dillon O'Connor (224.70) and Andrew Cataldo (208.73) brought back second and third place in the 3 meter dive.

Lim and Hunt capped Fairfield's afternoon by taking the top two spot sin the 200 IM, completing the distance in 1:56.05 and 1:57.34 respectively.

The Stags will return to the pool on October 27 when they host Providence College in a dual meet at the Rec Plex pool.
