Stags Start MAAC Homestand with Saturday Visit from Quinnipiac

First serve at the RecPlex is slated for 1 p.m.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — After a second straight unbeaten road weekend, Fairfield University Volleyball returns to the RecPlex to host Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 1. First serve between the Stags and Bobcats is set for 1 p.m.

The Stags enter Saturday's match at 4-0 in MAAC play – all on the road – and 10-5 overall. Fairfield is the MAAC's lone unbeaten team remaining, with Iona, Marist, Canisius and Rider all jockeying for position with one loss apiece. The bottom half of the standings is occupied by five teams that have each absorbed three losses in the early stages of conference play.

Reigning MAAC Player of the Year KJ Johnson led the way in last weekend's sweeps at Marist and Siena, posting 12 and 13 respectively while swinging at a .339 clip. She also picked up 10 blocks in six sets of work, including six against the Red Foxes. Kyla Berg paced the back row with 5.17 digs per set and contributed to the scoring with a combined five service aces in the two road outings.

Quinnipiac comes to the RecPlex with a record of 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the MAAC. After dropping both ends of the Buffalo trip on Sept. 17-18, the Bobcats picked up their first MAAC victory last Saturday with a 3-2 win at Siena before falling in straight sets at Marist on Sunday.

Alexandra Tennon paces the Quinnipiac attack with 3.30 kills per set followed by 2.97 kills per frame for Ginevra Giovagnoni, though the rookie has not taken the court since the MAAC opener on Sept. 17. The defensive effort is led by Aryanah Diaz with 3.7 digs per set as the Bobcat to appear in all 44 sets to date.

This weekend's match is the start of streak in which the Stags will play four straight – and seven of their next nine – on campus at the RecPlex. Up next is an Oct. 8-9 series with Manhattan and Iona with both matches slated for a 1 p.m. start.
