LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Fairfield University Volleyball played its fourth consecutive road contest to open the MAAC schedule on Sunday at Siena, and the Stags came away with their fourth straight 3-0 victory to remain as the league's only unbeaten team.
Allie Elliott and
Blakely Montgomery both posted double-doubles in the sweep of the Saints.
Â
With the win, Fairfield moves to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC. Siena, which lost a five-set fracas with Quinnipiac yesterday at the UHY Center, falls to 3-10 on the season with a 1-3 MAAC tally.
Â
"There are a lot worse places we could be right now than 4-0 in conference play after these last two road weekends," said Head Coach
Todd Kress. "I give credit to our team today for grinding out a W today without playing our best. I loved seeing two freshmen in
Allie Elliott and
Maya Walker lead us in attack percentage."
Â
Elliott hit .375 from the pins to amass 10 kills (10-1-24) while
Maya Walker led the effort in the middle with seven kills on .462 hitting (7-1-13).
KJ Johnson was Fairfield's most prolific finisher with 13 kills at a .281 clip.
Sara Daniels and
Mikayla Haut supplemented the attack with three kills apiece.
Â
The offense was managed to a .226 attack percentage by
Blakely Montgomery, who recorded 28 assists in the three-set outing and also dumped over four kills of her own.
Â
The Stags added to the scoring with seven points from the end line.
Morgan Doll landed three aces, with Montgomery and
Kyla Berg both dropping in two.
Â
Defensively, four Stags had 12 digs apiece in Berg, Doll, Elliott and Montgomery, while
Noelle Carey added seven from the back row. At the net, Daniels and Johnson each had a hand in four of the Stags' six team blocks. The Fairfield defensive effort limited Siena to a .120 hitting percentage.
Â
"This week of practice will be all about getting back to some basics, focusing on our defensive intensity and mindset and enjoying the process of getting better," Kress noted.
Â
The Saints got eight kills from Ece Emrullah and seven by Sara Wagner to pace their offense. Siena libero Grace Halley led all players with 20 digs.
Â
After opening MAAC action with four straight road outings, the Stags will play their next four – and seven of the next nine – on campus at the RecPlex. The run begins with a visit from in-state MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
