Stags Host Bryant, Sacred Heart this Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will return to Lessing Field for their longest homestand of the season, beginning with a Thursday night matchup against Bryant at 7pm. The Stags will conclude their home weekend with a meeting against crosstown rival Sacred Heart on Sunday at 1pm.

Fairfield will be entering their three-game homestand with a 2-1 record after splitting their road swing against Holy Cross and Princeton.

Elle Scott provided the Stags with their lone goal in the 1-0 victory at Holy Cross as she struck a left-footed shot to the upper right-hand corner of the net in the 64th minute. The score was set up by pass from Reagan Klarmann as the sophomore captain recorded her second assist of the season.

The Stags would also record their second shutout victory of the season against the Crusaders as freshman goalkeeper Katie Wright collected a career-high nine saves in net in earning her first clean sheet.

That defensive energy was show again in the battle against Princeton as the Stags held the Tigers to two scores. The Fairfield defense faced 21 shots in the contest but surrendered a season-low seven shots on target. Meghan Carragher provided the exemplary play on the defensive end after diving in front of a shot to deflect the ball away.

The Stags will first host a Bryant team that enters play with a 1-3 record after falling to California Baptist and Maine over the weekend. Four different Bulldogs have recorded a goal so far this season with two other student-athletes notching assists.

Fairfield will close out their weekend play with a visit from crosstown rivals Sacred Heart, the Pioneers first-ever visit to Lessing Field. The Pioneers start the weekend with a 1-2 record highlighted by a 2-0 victory against St. John's. Morgan Bovardi and Kelly Medeiros have recorded the two scores for Sacred Heart this year.

The Stags will close out their homestand when they welcome Northeastern to Lessing Field on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6pm.
