FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A seven-game road swing in November followed by a December residency in the new on-campus Arena comprise the 11-game non-conference schedule for Fairfield University Men's Basketball, as announced on Wednesday by Head Coach
Jay Young. The slate begins on Nov. 7 at ACC opponent Wake Forest.
Â
Fairfield Men's Basketball's first game in the new on-campus Arena will be played during the first weekend of the MAAC schedule in early December. At least one of those two games will be played in Fairfield, in addition to the four non-conference home outings in December.
Â
"We're excited to announce a very competitive non-conference schedule for the upcoming year," said Young, who is entering his fourth campaign leading the Stags. "In addition to welcoming some great opponents to our new on-campus Arena, we will also have the opportunity to challenge several high majors and mid-major powers as we prepare for the MAAC portion of the 2022-23 season."

The 2022-23 season begins at the site of one of the most memorable moments in Fairfield Men's Basketball history – the near-upset of #1 North Carolina in the 1997 NCAA Tournament – as the Stags challenge host Wake Forest on Monday, Nov. 7. The Demon Deacons went 25-10 last season, including an 18-2 record in Winston-Salem, en route to the NIT Quarterfinals.
Â
The Stags are 0-3 all-time against Wake Forest, most recently clashing in the 2007 season opener.
Â
A quick return to New England then sends the Stags to Durham, N.H. to meet the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 11. UNH went 15-13 last season with a 10-8 mark in the America East.
Â
Another high-major test is on deck on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when Fairfield treks to Cincinnati to go toe-to-toe with the reigning NIT Champion Xavier. The Musketeers cut down the nets at MSG to cap a 23-13 campaign last season. Fairfield and Xavier have met twice in program history, with George Bisacca's Stags getting the better of the Musketeers in both 1965 and 1968.
Â
The first rematch from the 2021-22 is up next as the Stags head to Staten Island on Friday, Nov. 18 to meet Wagner. The Seahawks topped Fairfield last season at Webster Bank Arena as a part of a 21-6 season that ended in the NEC Championship Game.
Â
The seven-game journey concludes on Thanksgiving weekend with three games in Georgia at the Savannah Invitational from Nov. 25-27. The matchups are yet to be announced, but the 10-team field includes Evansville, Fairfield, James Madison, Mercer, Nicholls State, Robert Morris, South Alabama, South Dakota State, Towson and Valparaiso.
Â
As the calendar turns to December, the attention turns to MAAC action as the Stags take the court for the first time at the University's new on-campus Arena. The matchups for the first weekend of December will be announced by the conference in the near future, with at least one of the two league contests set to be held at the new home venue.
Â
The Stags' return to non-conference action will be three consecutive Connecticut foes to Fairfield, beginning with Sacred Heart. The Pioneers will be making their first-ever appearance on campus on Wednesday, Dec. 7 following the Stags' first-ever game on the SHU campus last season – a 71-61 win to run the all-time series to 8-0.
Â
Reigning back-to-back Ivy League Champion Yale is up next on Monday, Dec. 12 as the Bulldogs visit campus for only the second time in the last 30 seasons. The in-state foes met on a near-annual basis from 1977-93, but just seven times since then, including a Connecticut 6 matchup in New Britain in 2015 as well as a Fairfield victory in Bridgeport in the 2012 CIT.
Â
After a break for final exams, the Nutmeg State trio is rounded out by Coast Guard on Sunday, Dec. 18. The non-conference slate then comes to a close on the ensuing Thursday, Dec. 22 with a visit from Drexel. The Dragons, who are two seasons removed from a CAA Championship, appear on the Stags' schedule for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
Â
The 2022-23 MAAC schedule will resume after Christmas. In total, the Stags will play 10 MAAC home games in addition to four non-conference contests at the new on-campus Arena.
