FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule that includes two NCAA Tournament participants, namely Miami University of Ohio and the University of Louisville. Six of the program's opponents posted at least 10 wins while their 18 opponents combined for 140 victories during the 2021 season. The Stags will have an even split on the slate with nine home and nine away dates for 2022.
Head Coach
Jackie Kane will see her squad open on the road with a pair of contests that include Monmouth University on August 26 and Villanova University on August 28. The team returns to the Fairfield campus for its longest home stand of the season, hosting four contests at University Field. The run begins with a pair of games over Labor Day weekend, beginning with the College of the Holy Cross on September 2. On September 4, the University at Albany travels to the Nutmeg State for a Sunday afternoon date.
The home stand continues with two more non-conference outings with Drexel University and Lafayette College rounding out the four-game slate. The Drexel game is set for September 9 before Lafayette, which posted an impressive 14-6 record a year ago, concluding the home stand on September 11.
The Stags will embark on their longest road trip of the season by traveling to Miami University of Ohio on September 17 and the University of Louisville on September 18. Both opponents posted winning campaigns and advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2021. Fairfield has one more non-conference game, a September 25 date with Yale University, before the Northeast Conference (NEC) campaign begins.
Sacred Heart is the first opponent on the NEC docket, hosting Fairfield on September 30 to close out the month. October starts with another road game as the Stags will head south for an October 7 contest against Rider University.
Fairfield will wrap a pair of home games around an October road trip to St. Francis University which is scheduled for October 14. The Stags will host Merrimack College on October 9 and Big East foe Quinnipiac University on October 16.
The final portion of the regular season sends Fairfield to Wagner College and LIU on October 21 and 23 before closing out the docket by hosting Stonehill College and LaSalle University on October 28 and 30 respectively.
The Stags posted an impressive 14-8 overall record and an unblemished 7-0 mark in NEC play a year ago. Fairfield captured the conference championship by sweeping Rider and LIU in the NEC tournament which sent the Stags to nationally-ranked University of Delaware in an opening round game of the NCAA Championship. Fairfield rallied from a three-goal deficit, including the tying goal with seconds left in regulation, before falling to the Blue Hens in overtime by a 4-3 score.
