FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield University Head Men's Soccer Coach
Carl Rees announced an 18-game slate that will include nine home games and nine road contests during the 2022 campaign. The Stags will play teams from seven difference conferences which includes another highly competitive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule that begins on September 28 against the conference's newest member Mount St. Mary's. The team will face nine teams that owned a winning record in 2021, highlighted by a pair of teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
Fairfield opens up the season with a pair of road games in Maryland, starting the year with a game at UMBC on August 26, before heading to the United States Naval Academy for a match on August 28. The Midshipmen posted an impressive 12-6-1 overall record a year ago, one of four teams on the Stags' docket that won at least 10 matches during the 2021 season.
Coach Rees brings his squad back to campus for a pair of games to start the month of September, beginning with the home opener on September 2 against the University at Albany. Five days later, the team will welcome Colgate University to Lessing Field, the Stags' second date with a team from the Patriot League through the first four games.
A quick trip to Bryant University comes up on September 11 before the program returns home for a pair of mid-September matches later in the week. The stretch begins with a September 14 date with the University of Rhode Island, setting up the first of consecutive Ivy League opponents when Princeton University comes to Lessing Field on September 17. The Stags will have to wait a week before returning to the pitch on September 24 when they head north for a match up with Harvard University.
Fairfield will start play in the MAAC with its final match of September, hosting Mount St. Mary's for a 7 pm start. The Mountaineers are playing their first season as a member of the MAAC this year after competing in the Northeast Conference. The Stags will stay instate for their first road conference date of 2022, heading up the interstate for an October 1 date with Quinnipiac University in Hamden. The team will complete its brief two-game road trip with an October 5 match against Manhattan College.
