BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team added two more home runs bringing their season total to 50, but it was not enough as they were stopped by crosstown rivals Sacred Heart 11-6 on Thursday.
Mike Becchetti and
Charlie Pagliarini both went yard with the duo accounting for all six RBI for the Stags.
Becchetti was responsible for Fairfield's first three runs with a RBI double in the third and a two-run homer in the fifth.
Charlie Pagliarini plated all three of the other runs with a three-run big fly in the seventh.
Pagliarini's homer boosted his season total to a team-best eight home runs. Becchetti is now tied with two other Stags for seven on the spring.
Griffin Watson would score on all three hits as he reached base three times. Becchetti and
Matt Zaffino led the Stags with two hits apiece.
Fairfield had a chance to regain the lead as they loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the eighth inning in a 6-6 tie game.
Matt Venuto started the frame with a single and was followed by a
Mike Caruso walk and a
Paul Catalano bunt single. However, the Pioneers were able to get three-straight outs to end the threat and then use that momentum to score five runs in the bottom half of the frame.
The Stags will have nearly a week off before their next contest when they host UMass on Tuesday May 3, at 3:30pm.
