Softball Prepares For Doubleheaders With Monmouth, Saint Peter's

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team prepares for four games against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents this weekend with the Stags traveling to Monmouth University for a doubleheader at Monmouth University on Friday and another doubleheader against Saint Peter's University at home on Saturday afternoon. First pitch for the Monmouth date is 1 pm while the Stags will start at noon against Saint Peter's.

The team was finally able to get back on the softball diamond after seeing seven consecutive games postponed due to inclement weather. Fairfield played Siena College in a road doubleheader on Monday, the first time the team took the field since April 2, and followed with a single non-conference contest with UConn. Now, the Stags will try and get back on track against MAAC foes with four games coming up over a two-day span.

Monmouth also played a non-conference game on Wednesday, falling to Columbia University by a 3-0 count on the road. The Fairfield doubleheader will be the last home date for a couple of weeks as the Hawks are scheduled to play 10 straight MAAC games on the road between April 16 and May 6. The Hawks finish their regular-season slate with a home doubleheader with Quinnipiac following that extended road trip.

Lindsey Baron continues her torrid pace in the batter's box with a .340 batting average, complemented by her 13 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. She has registered at least one hit in 27 of her 35 appearances this year with eight multiple-hit games. Stavi Augur leads the team with 17 RBI and also offers a .286 batting average with 14 runs scored. Kylie Gletow has accounted for four of the team's six victories in the pitching circle with Billie Kerwood adding two wins and 86 strikeouts in 91-plus innings.

Saint Peter's has won 14 of 33 games this season including a 1-3 slate in MAAC play. The team has won three straight games starting with the nightcap against Quinnipiac and continuing with a sweep of Coppin State University.

Cara McNulty has enjoyed a solid season to date with 38 hits and a .380 batting average through her 33 starts. She also owns a team-high 21 RBI which goes along with her seven doubles and two home runs. Olyvia Smith is also above the .300 mark with her .330 hitting percentage, scoring 20 runs and stealing four bases. Six different Saint Peter's pitchers have at least one win this season led by Kasidy Slusser's 5-2 mark despite being used primarily as a reliever (16 appearances, three starts).

For the Stags, Haley Updegraff has been consistent throughout the season and comes into the weekend with a .338 batting average, a .603 slugging percentage, and a .413 on-base percentage with seven stolen bases. Freshman Charli Warren has been one of the team's top hitters over the last 10 games with 10 hits in 27 at-bats (.370 batting average), registering at least one hit in six of those 10 contests. Katie Kudlacik and Bailey Taylor each have a pair of wins for the Stags with the duo combining for 51 of the pitching staff's 80 strikeouts this season.

Following this weekend's games, Fairfield will play another rescheduled doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19 at Marist College. The home game against Hartford originally scheduled for that date has been moved to Thursday, April 21.
