FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will close out one of the most historic regular seasons in school history when they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to face the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday night at 7pm. The MAAC Regular Season Champions, will look to extend their winning streak to 12-straight, further boosting their longest streak since the 1990-91 season.
The Stags celebrated their Senior Night in their last game as they honored the seven senior and graduate students of the program. Those seven student-athletes combined for all 65 of the team's points, highlighted by
Lou Lopez-Senechal who dropped 30 points for the second-straight game.
Fairfield trailed by one heading into the final quarter, but that was when Lopez-Senechal took over. She netted 16 points in the fourth quarter, going 6-for-10 from the field. With her parents in the stands, she also registered the game-winning steal and drove the length of the court to hit the fast break layup with 12 seconds remaining.
With her 30 points, Lopez-Senechal eclipsed the 1500-point mark for her career as she places 11th on the program's all-time list. She also scored her 500th point of the season becoming the 12th Stag to reach that mark. She now sits eighth in single season history with 517.
Rachel Hakes led the Stags with 10 assists, the fourth game this season she has registered double digit helpers. She raised her career total to 383, sitting 12th on the program's all-time list. She also hit a clutch 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and is shooting 57 percent from long range in her last nine games.
The Peacocks have dropped their last two games to bring their MAAC record to 9-10. Kassondra Brown leads the team with 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds.
Fairfield will hold the top-seed in the MAAC Championships for the first time in 22 years. The Stags will begin their quest to grab the conference trophy in the MAAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 1pm in Atlantic City, N.J.
