FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team has enjoyed an historic season so far in 2021-22, and the main reason for that success has been the play of their five-member senior class in addition with their two graduate students. The program will honor the accomplishments of all seven student-athletes before their Thursday game against Rider with pregame ceremonies starting at 4:35. Tip-off against the Broncs will be at 5pm and will kick-off a Fairfield Basketball doubleheader with the men's squad.
Â
Lou Lopez-Senechal,
Rachel Hakes,
Andrea Hernangomez,
Callie Cavanaugh, and
Jazmine Carter comprise the Fairfield Basketball Class of 2022 and have helped the Stags to consistent success over the last four years. The five-member group has combined to score nearly 3,000 points, grab over 1,600 rebounds and dish out nearly 700 assists. Combined with Fairfield's two graduate students in
Sam Lewis and
Sydney Lowery, the group has helped the Stags to the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 17-1 league mark.
Â
The 17Â MAAC wins is one away tied for the most in conference history in a season, already setting the program standard. Fairfield picked up their 17th MAAC win with a 12-point win at Manhattan as they became just the second team this season to defeat the Jaspers on the road, breaking their 10-1 mark.
Â
Lou Lopez-Senechal was at the forefront of the win as she dropped a career-high 30 points on 13 made field goals. That brought her season total to 487 points and she is now just 13 points shy of becoming the 12th Stag to reach 500 points in a season. She is also 19 points shy of 1500 in her career and is 13 away from tying Kate Abromovich '93 for 11th all-time.
Â
Fairfield also picked up their 20th win of the season in the victory at Manhattan, the fifth time under Head Coach
Joe Frager that they have reached that mark.
Â
Rider enters the contest with a 7-11 league mark including a 3-2 clip in their last five games. Lenaejha Evans is the team's leading scorer as she chips in 14.0 points per game to lead a trio of double-digit scorers.
Â
Fairfield will next travel to Saint Peter's to close out the regular season on Saturday at 7pm.
