Corasaniti Stops 21 Shots in 16-11 Victory at Binghamton

Jack McKenna leads the attack with five goals in the road win

VESTAL, N.Y. – James Corasaniti made a career-high 21 saves to lead Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse to a 16-11 win at Binghamton on Monday afternoon. The Stags' attack was powered by a career-best six points from rookie Jack McKenna.

Corasaniti's 21 stops are the most for Fairfield (4-3) since Tyler Behring turned away 23 Bucknell offerings during the 2016 campaign. The 21 saves are the most in a Stags' victory since April 6, 2003, when C.J. Kemp stopped 22 shots in a 15-8 GWLL win over Air Force. Corasaniti also picked up four ground balls and registered a caused turnover in today's triumph.

McKenna matched his career-high of five goals and dished an assist to round out his half-dozen points. He was one of three Stags to record a hat trick as Mike Drake scored a career-best four tallies and Max Paparozzi notched three markers along with two assists. Taylor Strough also netted a pair of goals – including the game's only man-up strike – with Patrick Drake adding one and Matt Rice scoring the first goal of his Fairfield career.

Patrick Drake matched his brother with a four-point day, as he distributed three assists along with his one goal.  Kyle Borda also doled out a trio of helpers, with Josh Demko notching his first career point by way of an assist to round out the scoring effort.

Frankie Labetti went 8-for-16 with three ground balls to help keep the Stags on the attack. Evan Keiser was strong on the wing, collecting all three of his grounders in faceoff situations.

The defensive effort in front of Corasaniti was led by two ground balls and two caused turnovers from Zack Antoniou.

The Stags led wire-to-wire, as Paparozzi scored twice in a seven-second span early in the first quarter to stake Fairfield to a lead it would never relinquish. Paparozzi would complete his hat trick during the first 15 minutes in addition to tallies from Strough, Mike Drake and McKenna to put Fairfield on top, 6-3, after the opening stanza. The clubs traded goals in the second frame, with Patrick Drake, Rice and McKenna accounting for the Fairfield finishes to send the Stags into the intermission in front by a 9-5 count.

Binghamton (2-4) made a push coming out of the locker room with three goals in the opening 2:12 of the period to cut the deficit to 9-8. But McKenna answered with back-to-back goals to start a 6-0 run that put the game out of reach at 15-8 midway through the fourth. A final three-goal run was too little, too late for the Bearcats, and Mike Drake dunked in his fourth of the day against a vacated cage to round out the 16-11 final.

Binghamton was led by three goals and three assists from Kevin Winkoff. Reigning America East Defensive Player of the Year Teddy Dolan made 11 saves in the Bearcats cage.

The Stags now begin a three-game homestand from March 19-April 2 featuring visits from Big East foes Providence and St. John's followed by the CAA opener against Hofstra.
