FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A dominating performance from end-to-end gave Fairfield University men's tennis their first home win of the spring 7-0 over Merrimack.
"Nice to get back in the win column especially at home," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "The bottom of the lineup really stepped up and played great today led by Griffin Schlesinger – he's playing at a high level right now."
Andrew Immink and Will O'Brien got the winning started four the Stags, earning their fifth win as a tandem with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. Charlie Morkel and Keean Shah followed suit shortly after in the top flight, winning by the same score line and improving to 2-0 together, earning both wins in at the No. 1 spot.
In the singles rounds, Griffin Schlesinger gave up only two games in the No. 5 match, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win for his ninth win of the year, finishing ahead of Will O'Brien who also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, as he extends his win-streak to four. Rounding out the bottom half of the singles scoresheet, Shah swept his opponent in the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-4.
In the No. 1 duel, Kaya Gore took a straight set win 7-6 (10-4), 6-4, and Sam Hodges did nearly the same at No. 3 singles, taking that match 7-6 (10-4), 6-1. Morkel would have to rally back from a first set defeat in the No. 2 bout, but bounced back strong and gave up only two games from that point and shutout his opponent in the decisive third set, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Fairfield men's tennis is back in action Saturday when they host Merrimack. The Stags and the Warriors will square off on campus from the WAC Tennis Courts.
