KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Owls scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game and then walked off with a single in the ninth for a 6-5 decision over the Fairfield University Baseball team.
Michael Sansone helped the Stags to a strong early lead with seven impressive innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Stags scored four of their runs in the first four innings as they got 10 baserunners through those first four frames.
Charlie Pagliarini helped the Stags plate the first run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly in the first.
Colin Kelly would add a sacrifice fly in the second and
Mike Becchetti added a RBI single.
Kelly would come up with the bases loaded and no outs in the fourth and got a run home but grounded into a double play. Fairfield would actually ground into three double plays in the first four innings, limiting the Stags early chances.
Michael Sansone helped that lead stay strong as he fired seven impressive innings allowing just two earned runs on five hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Fairfield added their final run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to
Matt Zaffino.
The Owls loaded the bases in the eighth with nobody out and would plate three, highlighted by a two-run single by Nick Hassan. The Owls led off the ninth with a single and got the winning run into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Cash Young walked off with a single up the middle.
Becchetti and
Matt Venuto led the Stags with two hits apiece.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 12pm.
