Stags Close Out Non-Conference Slate with Crosstown Rivalry Against Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will return home after a hot-shooting three-game road trip when they welcome crosstown rivals Sacred Heart to the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Sunday at 2pm. The contest will be the final tune-up for the Stags before conference play starting next week.

The Stags found their offensive success in their three-game road trip as they averaged 81.3 points, their most in a three-game span since Dec. 2004. Fairfield also shot 43 percent from long range and averaged 18.7 assists.

Their hot-shooting was highlighted by a 90-point showing in the 90-83 victory over Dayton on Wednesday. The 90 points is the most scored by the Stags since they defeated Bryant in double overtime in the 2013 WBI. It is the most scored in regulation since Dec. 2, 2004 against Saint Peter's.

The Stags scored 52 and shot 70 percent from the field in the second half at Dayton.

Andrea Hernangomez led the Stags with a career-high 22 points followed by Izabela Nicoletti-Leite's 20. It is the first time in program history that the Stags have had a pair of 20-point scorers in three-straight games.

Nicoletti-Leite has reached 20 points in all three of those games, averaging 21.3 during the road trip. She has been impressive from behind the arc, shooting 59 percent (16-for-23) during that stretch. For the season, she ranks second in the MAAC and 35th nationally with a .476 3-point shooting percentage.

Sacred Heart brings a 1-8 record into the contest, after dropping a 67-56 decision to Bryant. Ny'Ceara Pryor is the team's leading scorer averaging 15.6 points per game and leading rebounder with 6.2 boards.

Fairfield will turn their attention to conference play when they travel to Saint Peter's on Saturday at 2pm.
