LEXINGTON, Ky. – KJ Johnson has been selected as All-East Coast Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the second straight season, as announced on Tuesday by the organization. Johnson is the first two-time All-Region selection in Fairfield University Volleyball history and in the history of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Johnson was named the MAAC Player of the Year and All-MAAC First Team for the second straight season in 2022 after leading Fairfield to its fourth straight MAAC Regular Season Championship. She ranked third in the MAAC with 3.67 kills and 4.29 points per frame. Her .273 hitting percentage was sixth overall in the conference and first among outside hitters, and only 11 players in the nation with as many as Johnson's 1040 swings own a higher attack percentage. Defensively, Johnson averaged 1.98 digs per set and ranked among the conference's top 10 in blocks with 84 rejections in 105 sets.
Last season, Johnson joined Fairfield Athletics Hall of Famer Joanne Saunders, who was named All-Mideast Region in 2000, as only the second AVCA All-Region pick in Fairfield and MAAC history. Johnson was also tabbed as the first AVCA All-American in program history after her historic 2021 campaign.
Fairfield Volleyball posted a 25-7 record this past fall. The Stags went 17-1 in conference play to win their fourth consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship and reached the MAAC Championship Final in the third straight campaign in which they competed in the postseason.
