BOSTON, Mass. -- The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams continued their stay at the Terrier Invitational with their second day of competition against Northeastern University, Boston College, Georgetown University, University of Massachusetts, and host Boston University. The women's team posted 303 team points while the men's team accumulated 449.50 points through Saturday's schedule with one more day on the docket.
Fairfield earned gold in the 200 free when Joseph Stewart took first place in the finals by touching the wall in 1:39.21.
Lily Barker also finished in the top 10 with her time of 1:55.36, taking 10th in the competition. The Stags also had a swimmer earn points in the 100 breaststroke with
Cailey Stockwell's eighth place finish (1:05.48) and Chris Ford's fourth-place swim (55.87).
Alexis Gaulin picked up team points in the 3-meter dive by registering a score of 236.75 through her rotations. She was the lone Stag diver to pick up points during Saturday's competition with her sixth-place finish.Â
The Stags also earned top 10 finishes in three relay races with the men's 200 medley relay getting things going with their eighth place swim, finishing the event in 1:32.86. Fairfield was represented by Oliver McLaughlin, Chris Ford, Evan Fair, and Alex Belfer. Later in the evening, the men's 800 free relay garnered a fifth place finish with its time of 6:46.07. The relay tea was comprised by Tim Regan, Ed Hunt, Evan Fair, and Joseph Stewart. The women's 800 free relay took eighth place after completing the distance in 7:47.97 behind the efforts of
Erini Pappas,
Lily Barker,
Serafina Viola, and
Sydney Scalise.
Fairfield put two swimmers in the top 10 for the 400 IM, beginning with
Erini Pappas taking sixth (4:27.87) and
Erin Hoyland securing 10th (4:33.53). The men followed with Ed Hunt garnering eighth place following his time of 4:00.76 and Evan Fair collecting ninth place with his time of 4:00.89. Fair also earned a top 10 finish in the 100 back, taking eighth place after completing the distance in 51.15.
The Terrier Invitational comes to a close on Sunday afternoon with the teams competing in the 1650 free, the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 fly, and the 400 free relay. The preliminaries are scheduled for 10 am with the finals slated for a 5 pm start.
