Swimming & Diving Travels to Providence, Hosts Holy Cross Over The Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After an intense start to the 2022-23 season, the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams had a weekend away from competition. Now, the Stags are ready to get back into the pool with a pair of dual meets scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

The weekend opens with a road trip for a dual meet with Providence College which begins at 3 pm. One day later, the Stags will return home for the third time this season with a home dual meet against the College of the Holy Cross. The meet is slated for 1 pm at the RecPlex Pool.

The Stags are coming off an impressive win over Monmouth University on October 15, the program's last competition. The women's team scored a 221-73 decision over the Hawks while the men's squad garnered a 207-81 victory.

Fairfield received several strong efforts on both sides with Erini Pappas earning three first-place finishes for the women's team while Chris Ford and Alexey Belfer captured a pair of wins for the men's team.

Pappas took the top spot in the 100 back (1:04.32), the 200 back (2:19.30), and the 200 IM (2:23.09). Ford swept the 100 breaststroke (1:04.37) and the 200 breast (2:24.80) followed by Belfer's top finishes in the 50 free (23.38) and the 100 free (52.75).

Providence will compete in a dual meet for the first time this year after opening up the season at the Boston College Invitational. The women's team collected 285 points in the event while the men's team captured 437 points in the five-team event. The Friars will also have a pair of dual meets this weekend, hosting Iona University on Saturday for an afternoon start.

Holy Cross opened the campaign with a dual meet against Iona as the women won their meet by a 174.5-119.5 score and the men took a 166-128 victory over the Gaels. The Crusaders competed in a pair of invitationals after the Iona date, participating at the Boston College Invitational and the Worcester City Championship last weekend. Both programs took first place at the Worcester City Championship after the women finished fourth and men took fifth in the Boston College Invitational.

Following this weekend's back-to-back competition, the Fairfield University swimming and diving programs will travel to Marist College for a dual meet on November 5. The Marist meet will be the last dual meet of the 2022 calendar year as the team heads to Boston University's Terrier Invitational from November 18-20 before heading to the US Open from November 30 to December 3.
